John L. Scott, the
founder of John L. Scott Real Estate, was born near Glasgow, Scotland in
1898. In 1923 he set out upon on a two year journey that saw him
immigrate to the United States, eventually settling in Seattle in 1925.
Soon after his arrival, John L. Scott began working as a sales associate
in a local real estate office and then in 1931, established his own real
estate company, building a successful business on his integrity and
ambition to provide the highest quality customer service.
Three generations
later, John L. Scott’s strong heritage continues through his grandson
and current Chairman and CEO, J. Lennox Scott. What started with one
office over seventy years ago has grown to become one of the largest
independent residential real estate companies in the United States, went
far beyond Seattle real estate market with
over 3,300 sales associates in more than 120 offices throughout
Washington, Oregon and Idaho.

Chairman and CEO, J. Lennox Scott,
is the third generation owner and leader of John L. Scott Real
Estate. His commitment to quality service and strong customer
relationships is reflected in the company’s marketing programs,
business philosophies and Internet strategies. Lennox was
recently recognized for his dedication to the industry by
Realtor Magazine, who named him one of the nation's ‘Top 25
Most Influential People in Real Estate’. Following this, Lennox
was also honored by REAL Trends as one of the nation’s
‘Five Most Admired Individuals’ in real estate. Most recently,
Lennox published his first book entitled Next Generation Real

Lennox's father, W. Lennox Scott,
completed his education at the Harvard School of Business and
joined the company in 1954. During the two decades of his
leadership, the company expanded its influence in the growing
Puget Sound area, gaining an impressive share of sales and
dominating emerging markets throughout the region. W. Lennox
Scott passed away unexpectedly in 1977, leaving the ownership
and management of his company to his young son J. Lennox Scott. |

John L. Scott
was born near Glasgow, Scotland in 1898. In 1923, he immigrated
to the United States, arriving at Ellis Island. In 1925, he set
off across the country with his wife Lael and young son W.
Lennox Scott in a Model-T Ford that was destined for San Diego,
"I arrived in Seattle on July 12,” said John L., as he was
affectionately referred to, “it was like reaching City Beautiful
in Pilgrim’s Progress.” San Diego was quickly forgotten; Seattle
would become the Scott family’s new home. There soon after, John
L. began working as a sales associate at a Seattle real estate
company. In 1931, he established his own real estate company and
built a reputation based on providing the highest quality
customer service. John L. Scott passed away in 1986 at the age
of 87. He is fondly remembered as a gentleman, a dedicated
family man, and a community leader. |
